STUDIO GUIDE2 min read

How Studio prepares and compresses uploads, preserves transparent logos, controls Storage use and safely cleans up replaced website images.

Use photographs that help the page

Choose images that explain your school, service or project. A relevant campus photograph or a clear product screenshot gives visitors more information than a decorative picture with no connection to the content. Use an appropriate crop and keep essential text out of images whenever possible.

Upload preparation and compression

Studio accepts supported PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and AVIF uploads. Large originals are prepared in the browser before transfer. The server image optimizer then converts supported uploads to WebP, strips unnecessary metadata and applies image orientation.

The normal target is 50,000 bytes, with a maximum stored upload size of 75,000 bytes. The optimizer adjusts dimensions and quality as needed. Very detailed or noisy images can lose detail at these sizes, so check the preview rather than assuming every original can remain visually identical.

Transparent logos and animation

Transparent images retain their alpha channel where the supported conversion allows it. Use a clean transparent logo rather than a screenshot of the logo on a coloured background. Small supported animations can remain animated; larger animations may be converted to a poster frame and reported as such.

Replace an image without losing the live website

Image uploads receive new object names. Replacing a draft photograph does not overwrite the image used by the live publication. An image remains protected while it is referenced by a draft, publication, another website or retained publication history.

Cleanup with an undo grace period

Unused images receive a one-hour grace period before collection. Cleanup runs after Studio activity, removes the real Storage object and then clears its metadata. A shared or retained image is preserved. Removing an image from one draft does not mean it is immediately safe to delete it from every other version.

Preview the result

Check logos at navigation size and photos at phone width. Write image descriptions where the section supports them, and use the nearby page text to explain the image's purpose. A smaller file helps delivery, but meaningful content and readable layouts still matter.
